The 2024 TRACE essay competition

The TRACE essay competition is inviting law undergraduates from European universities to answer the following question:

 

In the context of the EU law (acquis communautaire), how can the law achieve a balance between protecting fundamental rights and the use of AI in law enforcement? 

 

The winner will receive a first prize of €150 and an invitation to present the essay at the TRACE final conference in June 2024 in Vienna, Austria. The winning entry will also be published in the TRACE newsletter. The second and third place essayists will be awarded €100 and €50 respectively. 

 

All essays will be judged by an expert panel according to the following criteria:

 

·      Originality of ideas


·      Feasibility of outcomes


·      Depth of research and analysis 


·      The use of comparative materials from across European countries 


·      Logical structure


·      Literary merit of materials used


·      Good presentation
